In early 2013, some staff members left Lennox Children's Cancer Fund to work for another charity called Alec's Angels. Since that time, Lennox has been subjected to a series of difficulties which we have not experienced before and there his been some confusion among our supporters who have been approached by Alec's Angels. We understand that some supporters have been told that Lennox is no longer operating, and some have been told that we have opened a new branch.

We must stress that we DO NOT work with Alec's Angels and the funds they raise are not coming to Lennox Children's Cancer Fund.

The following FAQs are based on questions we have been asked by Lennox supporters who have been approached by Alec's Angels...
Are you working with Alec's Angels?

No. In 2012 we received a donation from Alec's Angels but we have never worked alongside, or in conjunction with, them. We understand that some employees of Lennox who left the charity last year are now working for Alec's Angels, however they are no longer connected to Lennox in any way.

Did you share my contact details with Alec's Angels?

No. In accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, we do not pass on your information to third parties or other organisations. The information we hold for you is only used for charitable purposes by Lennox Children's Cancer Fund.
If you suspect that Alec's Angels has obtained your information through other means please contact them directly for
further clarification.

I've been told that Lennox is no longer operating. Is this true?

No. We have been a registered charity (no. 1011325) since 1992 and we were delighted to celebrate our 21st
anniversary last year.

What is the connection between Lennox and Alec's Angels?

Alec was a nine year old boy who sadly died in March 2011, after a long battle with a tumour on his brain stem. Lennox supported Alec and his family throughout the terrible ordeal and stayed in touch after his passing. The family set up Alec's Angels in his memory and, in February 2012, Alec's Angels became registered charity. Following several successful events, Alec's Angels raised some money which was split between three charities. We were very grateful to receive £3,700 as one of these charities and this can still be seen on some of Alec's Angel's literature. Since then, we have received no further donations and we are no longer associated with Alec's Angels.

Is Alec's Angels raising money for Lennox Children's Cancer Fund?

No. We have not received any money or support from Alec's Angels since July 2012.

Why does Alec's Angels literature have Lennox's information on it?

In 2012, Alec's Angels kindly donated £3,700, for which we are very grateful. At that time we agreed that our information could be used to show this on their information leaflet. We have since asked that all of our information is removed from their literature following lots of confusion among Lennox supporters.

Do you have a new office in Harold Wood?

No. Alec's Angels have an office based in Harold Wood, Romford, Essex.

Our only offices are:
  • 26 Hemmells, Laindon, Basildon, Essex SS15 6ED

I've been told that only a small percentage of my money is used for charitable purposes.
Is this true?

No. Our most recent accounts show that our charitable expenditure for 2012/13 was 33% of our overall income. This is not an uncommon percentage for a charity of our size and we are working hard to increase our charitable expenditure greatly over the next 36 months. We can only increase these percentages with consistent support from the public.

When the recession hit in 2008 and our incoming donations dropped by 30% very suddenly. Unfortunately, the running costs (such as rent and utility bills) remained the same at this time, and this caused a sudden decrease in the amount available for charitable expenditure. We have now implemented a three year plan to redress these financial problems and we're pleased to say that, after the first year, our newest accounts reflect the success of this plan.

How are you going to ensure that more of my money goes to the cause in future?

We have already made several important changes to decrease our administration costs in 2013/2014, and we have further plans in place. The first move was staff redundancies, followed by a relocation of our head office to smaller and much cheaper premises in Romford Town Centre, which will also decrease the charity's day-to-day costs. We have also sourced cheaper printing services, cuddly toy suppliers and packaging materials, postage etc.

If I have raised money for Alec's Angels, will you collect it?

No. You should contact Alec's Angels to arrange your collection with them.

If you would prefer to donate the funds you have raised for Alec's Angels to us, please ensure you contact Alec's Angels first to explain your decision. We are very grateful for all the donations we receive but we do not want to take money from any other charity deceivingly. All of our fundraisers carry ID badges and you are welcome to contact our head office on 01708 734366 to confirm their name.
