Max's Story

Max is two years old and has undergone numerous surgeries to remove an ependymoma - a tumour on his central nervous system and brain stem.

As a result of his tumour, Max has many physical disabilities. He is PEG (tube) fed, has an unsafe swallow, is at risk from respiratory viruses because of this, requires oral suction, has sleep apnoea so requires a non invasive ventilator when sleeping and sometimes oxygen if he is unwell. He has no balance and cannot walk.

Max's mum Katie asked us for help to pay for a Leckey Firefly Upsee harness which would cost £315.

We gave Max's family a £250 care grant and Katie sent us this lovely message:

"The Upsee walking harness attached Max to me so he can walk with me, making him more independent, allowing him to do normal things he loves like play football, enjoy the park, get up close to the pond and feed the ducks, walk where he wants to go, and also helps me and relieves pressure on my back."

"...Another magical moment recently in the harness was seeing Max feed the ducks for the first time. He has never before been able to get close enough from his pram to feed them properly. In the harness he was stood in the middle of the ducks at the side of the pond, holding the bag of duck feed, picking the grains of feed up 1 at a time, throwing them at the ducks and laughing like mad! He was in his element."

Thank you for your support and for helping us to help families like Max's!
