The participants assembled at the start line, where our Patron, Lloyd Warbey of Disney Channel's Art Attack, got them psyched up, before setting them off on their way. The 3.1 mile route around the perimeter of the park took in beautiful views of the lake and woodland areas, while the ducks, squirrels, doves and other wildlife grazed serenely.
At the finishing line, our superheroes were presented with a goody bag and medal, before meeting their families to spend the rest of the afternoon, enjoying the sunshine, browsing lots of stalls, playing on the inflatables, and making things in the craft tent with Lloyd Warbey. There was also a bar and DJ keeping the atmosphere lively for everyone to enjoy!
It is estimated that having a child undergoing cancer treatment costs families an extra £600 per month! Recent research also revealed that three in five parents end up in debt as a result of a child's cancer diagnosis, and one in six of these borrow more than £5,000 to cover the additional costs*. This puts a massive financial strain on families, who also have to take time off work to care for their sick child during treatment, which can often last several years.
Our family support team are constantly inundated with requests for financial support from families who find themselves in this all too common situation, so the funds raised from the Superhero Fun Day, will be used to help these families.
Thank you to all the fun run participants, item donors, volunteers, stall holders, sponsors and especially to Tony and Ian from Kosho in Romford.
