Tandem Skydive

COVID-19 UPDATE

During national lockdown, skydives will not be going ahead. Any charity tandem skydives that were scheduled to take place during lockdown will be rebooked.

BOOK NOW FOR 2021
During lockdown, we can still book your charity skydive for a future date. Simply complete the skydive booking form here, or email us at events@lennoxccf.org.uk for a free skydiving pack. You can then start raising your sponsors - all from the comfort of your own home!
A tandem skydive is a high altitude jump where you are securely attached to your tandem instructor. He/she is responsible for controlling the free-fall part of the skydive as well as the flight under the parachute, leaving you free to enjoy the thrill of the experience!

This is a fantastic opportunity to have the experience of a lifetime and if you raise £400 in sponsorship, your jump will be totally free!

Our charity tandem skydives are available seven days per week throughout the year so you can allow as much time as you need to raise your sponsors, and with airfields all over the UK, you shouldn’t have too far to travel either!

UK Parachuting is the skydive company that we have carefully chosen to ensure that you enjoy your skydive experience. Not only are they one of the friendliest and most helpful skydiving schools around, but also the most professional.

Cost and Sponsorship

The total cost of a charity tandem skydive is £400. This is broken down into:
  • £50 registration fee - due when you sign up, to secure your booking.
  • £350 sponsorship - to be raised after you sign up, and must be paid to Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund at least two weeks before your skydive date.
From this, we will pay the cost of your skydive and the remainder will help us to continue our work improving the lives of children with cancer.

Anything you raise above £400 will be extra for us!

There are lots of ways to fundraise to reach your target, but if you don’t manage to meet your minimum sponsorship in time, you can still skydive by either covering the remaining cost yourself, or re-arranging your skydive date.

FAQs

WHAT DOES THE EXPERIENCE INVOLVE?
The course is designed to be completed within half a day, where possible, however on busier days (usually weekends in the summer) there may be a short wait to do your jump. This will be avoided if possible but please allow time for delays on the day. Your skydive experience will consist of:
  • The Briefing: Your instructor will take you through a 30 minute briefing during which you will learn about the skydive, what you will need to do and the equipment that you will be using.
  • The Ride to Altitude: The aircraft will take you to a minimum of 12,000ft where you will exit securely harnessed to your instructor.
  • Freefall: You will experience freefall at around 120mph for approximately 35 seconds. Your instructor will deploy your tandem parachute at around 5,000ft.
  • The Parachute Ride: The parachute is specifically designed for two people and your instructor will control it throughout. You will have several minutes to enjoy the flight as your instructor guides it back to the landing area.
  • The Landing: Landings are usually soft. Following the instructions you were given during your briefing will ensure a comfortable landing - which is generally accomplished without even falling over!

IS IT SAFE?
The sport is naturally extremely safety-conscious so all tandem parachute systems come with a back up reserve parachute and a computer operated device that will automatically deploy the reserve parachute if the manual deployment method is unsuccessful. Tandem parachutes are designed for two people and are thoroughly tested and maintained. All parachute jumps at UK Parachuting are conducted in accordance with safety limitations imposed by the Civil Aviation Authority and the British Parachute Association.

WHAT IF I DON'T RAISE ENOUGH SPONSORS?
Firstly, don't panic! When booking your skydive, you should try to allow yourself enough time to raise the minimum sponsorship needed. If you are approaching your skydive date and you don't think you will have enough raised, please call us to discuss. We may be able to offer alternative ways to raise the extra funds you need. If this is not possible, we will be able to help you change your skydive to a later date.

There are lots of fundraising tools around to make it easier to raise sponsors and hit your fundraising target. We suggest setting up your own online fundraising page using JustGiving and send the link to family and friends using email, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and any other social media outlets available to you. This will allow your friends and family to sponsor you while on the go, or from the comfort of their sofas.

CAN I GET MY EXPERIENCE ON DVD?
The airfield can arrange a free-fall cameraman to record the entire experience (at an extra cost of £90-125). This is booked and paid for by you on the day of your skydive. It is not included in your sponsorship. You will receive a fully edited DVD that will provide a lasting reminder of your unique experience.
